Albany State football makes waves with top-20 D-II transfer class

In his first season at Albany State, head coach Quinn Gray Sr. led the Golden Rams to a 6-5 overall record and an appearance in the SIAC Championship Game.  Gray, like every other college football coach in the country is scouring the nation to identity, recruit and sign the talent necessary to improve his program.

For the vast majority of college football’s time span, the way to do that was building through high school players. Transfer players factored into that recipe but having to sit a year before being eligible to play made those players a much smaller part of the program-building equation. In the post COVID era, that one-year sit out period was lifted, leading to more activity in the transfer portal than at any other time in history.

With that in mind, Coach Gray and the Golden Rams did very well in the transfer arena, according to athlinkd.net, Albany State had Division-II’s 16th ranked transfer class

Amongst Albany State’s 2024 football class are 13 transfers coming to Dougherty County from the JUCO ranks to the ACC, including fellow HBCUs, Bethune-Cookman, Grambling, Mississippi Valley and Tennessee State.
